Saraya Aqaba announces winning beneficiaries of the 2016 Saraya Aqaba Scholarship Programme
Aqaba, Jordan – December 7, 2016: Saraya Aqaba, under the umbrella of the real estate investment and development company Eagle Hills Jordan, recently announced the 10 beneficiaries of its scholarship programme for the 2016-2017 academic year. The programme comes as a result of a long-standing partnership between Saraya Aqaba and the Jordanian Hashemite Fund for Human Development (JOHUD), through its Good Will Campaign (GWC) represented by the Princess Basma Community Development Centre in Aqaba.
This year, the programme’s recipients were announced at a special event on December 6 at Saraya Aqaba’s on-site sales centre in the attendance of representatives from all involved entities, the beneficiaries themselves and their families, and leaders of various community organisations.
Focused on enhancing the educational level of Aqaba youth and building human capital, the scholarships are open to local residents who plan on working in the city after completing university. Applicants must meet a specific set of prerequisites before moving to a screening process and personal interviews conducted by a committee of representatives from Eagle Hills Jordan and JOHUD. Among other criteria, the committee focuses on socioeconomic situation, personality, soft skills, and nature of university major.
Commenting on the occasion, CEO of Eagle Hills Jordan Alaa Batayneh said: “We at Eagle Hills Jordan are proud of each and every person that we offered a scholarship to this year and are fully confident that they will indeed achieve great success in the future. Offering this opportunity in partnership with JOHUD reflects our intrinsic commitment to changing the communities in which we operate from within, opening doors to higher education for various members of the local Aqaba community. At the same time, we wish to capitalise on their abilities, building up human capital as we approach the operational phase of a number of project components.”
Director of the Princess Basma Development Center in Aqaba Fatima Al Hinnawi said: “We greatly appreciate the efforts that Saraya Aqaba has taken toward the education scene here in Aqaba, and its focus on youth who have exhibited hard work and unbounded ambition towards improving their own futures. Through these educational scholarships, the positive change will not only impact these young people, but also their families and communities.”
Since 2008, more than 70 students have been selected to benefit from the Saraya Aqaba scholarship programme under its agreement with JOHUD, as part of the project’s, and Eagle Hills Jordan’s, unwavering commitment to supporting students in Aqaba during their academic careers to help them transition into the workforce and help create sustainable development on both local and national levels.
Upon completion, Saraya Aqaba, a luxury mixed-use leisure and tourism destination set to contribute positively to socioeconomic growth in Jordan’s coastal city, will include four hotels and a number of community, retail, and business facilities. Offering residents and guests a number of accommodations, amenities, and recreational areas that truly allow seaside living to become a reality, the project will bring in thousands of jobs from the local community, opening numerous pathways to employment for Aqaba residents.
