Eagle Hills Jordan and EDCO inaugurate largest electrical power substation in the Kingdom

Aqaba, Jordan – Month Day, 2016: Eagle Hills Jordan recently announced that the Electricity Distribution Company (EDCO) has finalised technical and administrative procedures to officially begin power distribution at Saraya Aqaba’s main electrical substation. A special ceremony to commemorate the achievement, including a visit to the substation and a tour of Saraya Aqaba, was held and welcomed the presence of HE Chief Commissioner of ASEZA Nasser Shraideh and a number of other officials from Aqaba.

EDCO stated that it created and installed the infrastructure in each of the 33/11 kilovolt (kV) main distribution stations with a total current capacity of 90 Mega Volt Amps (MVA) that can be expanded in the future to 120 MVA, and with five kilometres of 33 kV underground cables. Saraya Aqaba’s substation is considered the largest in Jordan in terms of the number of cells, and the largest in Aqaba in terms of capacity. The cost of the project was divided equally between Saraya Aqaba and the Electricity Distribution Company, according to distribution costs established for projects in developing cities.

EDCO confirmed the importance of this project and set it as a top priority in implementing His Majesty King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein’s vision of promoting tourism and investment in Jordan and exerting diligent efforts therein.
Speaking on the occasion, the CEO of Eagle Hills Jordan – the private investment company managing the development and operations of Saraya Aqaba – Alaa Batayneh, said: “We are proud to host a project of such a tremendous scale, as it is another great accomplishment to be added to the record of achievements that we have made this year. Projects like this underline both the strategic importance of Aqaba and the potential opportunities offered by Saraya Aqaba, not only for stakeholders but also on a national level.”

Batayneh went on to say that over the past year the company has made massive strides of progress on Saraya Aqaba. In addition to the electrical power substation, an on-site sales centre and three residential mock-up units were opened, the iconic, centrally located lagoon was completely filled earlier this year, and a number of key construction milestones were reached.

With unprecedented credentials for creating advanced city hubs and mixed-use projects in high-growth markets around the globe, Eagle Hills Jordan’s development of Saraya Aqaba is positioned to help transform Jordan’s coastal city into a vibrant destination for tourism, business and living. The fully integrated tourism and leisure project is built around a manmade lagoon that will add approximately 1.5 kilometres of coastline to Aqaba’s shores, featuring a variety of luxurious residential units, retail shops, restaurants, a water park, an amphitheatre, a residents’ beach club and various other leisure and business venues, all within an authentically styled, contemporary city with an arabesque ambiance. All of these attributes give it large and influential significance in stimulating domestic and foreign tourism and marketing Jordan globally.
